The Idea Behind the Wall of Sound
One of the things I love about building engine tables and automotive art is seeing the incredible spaces they ultimately become part of.
I’ve had the opportunity to visit some truly amazing private garages, offices, and car condos. As you know, the pride of ownership that collectors share is unmistakable. Thoughtful planning goes into everything, from the furniture and artwork to the lighting and countless other details that transform these spaces into something truly personal.
But I started noticing something that seemed out of place: boring, run-of-the-mill sound systems whose sole purpose was to provide background noise.
What was missing was that enveloping sound, the quality that draws you deeper into the atmosphere and makes the space come alive.
We weren’t looking for speakers that demanded attention or competed with the artwork. We wanted a seamless solution, one that disappears into the room and delivers effortless, uncompromised performance at any level.
At low levels, it needed to reveal extraordinary detail within a large, open soundstage, with a full-bodied presentation that extends well below the audible range. But it also needed the power and composure to rock at high levels, effortlessly handling anything we threw at it with control, ease, and pleasure.
Much like a fast car. It’s true, you don’t need to drive fast, but when you want to… you can.
That’s the idea behind the Wall of Sound.
HEAR IT IN PERSON
Showroom visits are welcome by appointment to see the Porsche 928 Wall of Sound up close and experience the audio system for yourself.
Every Wall of Sound is individually built in California by Ben's Automotive Decor in collaboration with Wyred 4 Sound.
To introduce the Wall of Sound, the first completed Porsche 928 system is being offered at a special introductory price of $34,500 — regularly $42,000.
The Finish
For the first Wall of Sound, I chose a genuine Porsche 928 V8.
It’s a beautiful engine to display. The distinctive spider-style intake manifold sits between the heavily branded Porsche cam covers, making the engine immediately recognizable as the centerpiece of the system.
The engine has been completely refinished in a Charcoal and Gold theme and is suspended between two custom-built speaker towers. The amplifiers and electronics are integrated into the engine and frame, keeping the finished installation clean and visually cohesive.
I also converted the original Porsche 928 oil pan into a fully functional storage drawer, giving another piece of the original engine a purpose within the finished work.
Integrated backlighting highlights the engine and speaker towers while adding a subtle ambient glow around the entire system.

What It's Like to Listen To
I’m blown away by what we ended up with.
I’ve played songs I’ve listened to for years and heard things in them I’d never noticed before. More than once, I’ve put music on while working and ended up completely distracted from what I was supposed to be doing and that’s probably what excites me most about this piece.
Most of my work is visual. The Wall of Sound adds another dimension. You see the engine. You hear the music. You feel the bass and somehow, the two experiences become one.
For the collector, that’s the ultimate goal: for the Wall of Sound to become part of the experience of the entire automotive space—something that reflects your love of cars even when the cars aren’t running.
The engine may be the centerpiece.
But when the music starts, the whole room comes alive.
