The Challenge
Roush Yates needed a centerpiece that honored the FR9’s history. We helped bring their vision to life with a suspended, exploded-view installation built to stop people in their tracks.
Understanding the Vision
"Roush Yates reached out looking for a signature piece for their new private museum, bar, gym, office, and event space. They wanted guests to immediately feel the legacy of the FR9—the engine behind so much of their NASCAR success. The goal was simple: make the engine the hero the moment someone walks in."
Building a Clear Plan
"Working together, we developed a concept to suspend the FR9 in an exploded view, showing every major component as if frozen in motion. I designed a custom four-wire hanging system and a ceiling-mounted frame that blends into the architecture. Behind it, a large display screen plays the FR9 story, supported with soft LED lighting to guide the eye and highlight the engineering that makes this engine iconic."
Bringing the Details to Life
"Every part was positioned with intention. The rotating assembly hangs below. The rods sit at their true running angles. The intake, fuel injection, pushrods, and valves are all laid out to give viewers a clear, honest look inside the FR9. The design showcases how the engine works—not just how it looks."
A Successful Installation
I flew to North Carolina to handle the full installation, assembling and suspending the entire exploded view on-site. Today, the FR9 display stands as the focal point of the Roush Yates entrance—an engineering story brought to life. What a great pleasure it was to work with the team at Roush Yates, and an honor to have a part in creating an amazing display of motorsport history.
