A lot of thought goes into the furniture, artwork, lighting and all the other details that make the space personal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eBut I started noticing that the sound systems were usually pretty boring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eSome sound fantastic and are obviously very expensive, but visually they are just speakers and audio equipment sitting in the room. They don't really express anything about the owner's love of cars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI wanted to change that.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThe idea behind the Wall of Soundwas to build a high-end audio system that sounds fantastic, while also being a piece of automotive art you'd be proud to have on display alongside your cars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI know the automotive art side, but I'm not an audio engineer, so I partnered with Wyred 4 Sound to make sure we got the audio side right. And get it right we did!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eWe worked together on the complete system. The speaker cabinets were purpose-built around the selected drivers, with the internal volume, porting, crossovers, amplification and DSP all designed for the installation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eFor the first Wall of Sound, I chose a Porsche 928 V8 as the spider intake manifold complements the heavily branded cam covers. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThe engine is suspended between two custom-built speaker towers and the amplifiers and electronics are integrated into the system. I also converted the original Porsche oil pan into a working storage drawer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThe finished system uses ribbon tweeters, 8\" midrange drivers, dual 10\" aluminum-cone subwoofers and 1,900 watts of available amplification.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI'm blown away with how it sounds. I've played songs I've listened to for years and heard things in them that I'd never noticed before.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThat's what excites me most about this piece. Most of my work is visual. The Wall of Sound adds another dimension to that.
